Selena Gomez has lived lifetimes. At just 27 years old, she is, in no particular order, a global pop star with three number-one albums, the fifth-most-followed person on Instagram, an actor since the age of 7, an executive producer of documentaries and television, a tabloid fixation, a philanthropist, a mental health advocate, and, most recently, the founder of an inclusive beauty line.
Selena Gomez and David Henrie delivered a major tease to their longtime fans over the weekend and just delivered the big news! The two Wizards of Waverly Place co-stars have actually teamed up for David’s directorial debut, This Is The Year, and Selena is the executive producer on it.
Selena and David also announced that This Is The Year will have a live virtual premiere event, moderated by sisters Charli and Dixie D’Amelio. You can purchase tickets for the special event here!
@davidhenrie: “I couldn’t be more honored to bring you a feel good movie that @selenagomez executive produced and I directed called @thisistheyearfilm ! We’re doing a LIVE, one-time only virtual premier event benefitting the @plus1org Covid 19 relief fund hosted by @charlidamelio and @dixiedamelio! You’ll not only get to see myself and @selenagomez in a live Q&A, you’ll get to see one with the whole cast and a performance from @lovelytheband ! The world needs a smile right now, and we hope to give that to you with this experience. Join us on August 28th at 4:30 PST,”
Here’s the This Is The Year summary: “In a last ditch effort to win over the girl of his dreams, a nerdy high school senior (Lorenzo Henrie) and his best friends embark on a road trip to see their favorite band at the biggest music festival of the year. On their journey, they realize that elaborate plans never go off without a hitch, and that you can find true love in the most unexpected places.”
@rarebeauty: For the past few months, you’ve all been asking… and we’re proud to share that our products will be 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Like you, we love and care for our animals too.❤️ Coming September 3rd only @Sephora and RareBeauty.com
Selena Gomez has been tapped as the co-lead opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short in Hulu’s comedy series Only Murders in the Building. Gomez executive produces the project, which has a straight-to-series order, with Martin, Short, John Hoffman, as well as This Is Us creators Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal of Rhode Ave.
Co-created and written by Martin and Hoffman based on an idea by Martin, Only Murders In The Building follows three strangers (Martin, Short and Gomez) who share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one.
“I heard the pitch on Wednesday, and it was the best hour I had all week,”
Hulu’s head of originals Craig Erwich told Deadline.
“It’s really special, surprisingly emotional. It’s really modern and self-referential about podcasts and murders, it’s got some great surprises. When they pull this off, it’s going to be really special.”
This marks Gomez’s acting return to television where she first rose to fame as the star of Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place and we can’t wait!
In the ten-episode series, premiering August 13, the superstar performer puts her kitchen skills to the test as she tackles dishes with the virtual help of her experts, who guide Selena from their own kitchens.
“I didn’t burn my house down, though. That’s the good news,” Gomez joked.
Selena added that she saw the show as an “opportunity to make something that could make people smile.”
“I hope you’re gonna laugh because I look like a fool,” she said.
Other chefs set to make guest appearances on the series include Angelo Sosa, Candice Kumai, Daniel Holzman, Jon & Vinny, Nancy Silverton, Nyesha Arrington and Tonya Holland.
